Poker has the potential to bring in huge sums of money. But in this game, you can lose a fortune. So it’s no surprise that poker tables are periodically decked out with expensive accessories that can become full-fledged luxury items.
This set may be the most expensive accessory ever created for poker. The accessory, which was made in 2011 by Jeffy Parker, is worth $7.3 million. The 384 chips, made of 18-carat gold and adorned with 22,000 jewels, are valued at that amount. The set includes 4 packs of cards, each of which is complemented by a sprinkling of natural platinum. The master craftsman also made a special dealer’s button.
The most expensive part of the set is the chips. The white ones are trimmed with diamonds, and the red ones are decorated with rubies. The blue chips are trimmed with sapphires, and the green ones with emeralds. Standing out against these are the black ones, which are decorated with single-coloured diamonds. In the centre of the obverse and reverse of the chips the master has placed stingray leather.
The set is concealed in a case decorated with alligator skin and inlaid with a white gold lock and diamonds.
A 16th century deck, made in Germany in the 16th century, was valued at an auction for $550,000. It contains cards made of silver with a gilded surface. The kings and jacks in this deck are in the form of engravings depicting noble families of 16th century Germany.
The owners of these cards were famous individuals, including a Portuguese king. A total of 5 such decks have survived to this day.
A unique piece, produced in 2013 in a single copy by jeweler Jerry Levy. The poker chip, valued at $450,000, is made of 22-carat rose gold, weighing a total of 136 grams. On the back side of the chip is set 64 pink diamonds, which are considered to be rare. In the centre of the chip is the number ‘8’. It is also adorned with diamonds, but this time in white. The same stone was used to inlay the rib. The weight of each diamond is 1 carat.
Because of such a high price, the chip was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records.
This is possibly the rarest pack of cards to have been used several times to play poker. It was made by Mitsubishi Material Corporation using innovative thin gold printing technology. The developers used 0.79 grams of the precious metal to manufacture each card.
As stated by the poker players who happened to hold them in their hands, they have the standard flexibility and lightness. The gold cards do not differ from their ordinary counterparts in terms of tactile sensation.
A special box was created for the deck which was made using rare hardwoods. The entire set is worth an estimated $13,000.
Meteorite shards are used to make a variety of unique objects. So it’s no surprise that in 2011 designer Christian Stahl from Sweden decided to take this material as the basis for a poker set.
Remarkably, the chips are only partially made from a shard of meteorite that fell to Earth some 800,000 years ago. Most of the poker set is made of white gold and palladium. The only thing made by the craftsman from the meteorite are the plates that decorate the core of each chip.
The edges are inlaid with diamonds, rubies from Burma and sapphires. The set, including 2 packs of cards, is housed in a special case with white gold hinges and locks.
